Comprehensive Reconditioning and Precision Machining
Each cylinder head build begins with a thorough cleaning and preparation process to restore and optimize the core component:
- Hot Tank Cleaning: Removes all oil and grime from the cylinder head for a clean base.
- Sand Blasting: Eliminates corrosion and debris, restoring a uniform satin aluminum finish.
- Removal and Replacement of Oil Port Plugs: All oil port plugs are removed, re-tapped, and reinstalled for optimal oil gallery cleaning.
- Freeze Plug Machining: CNC machining prepares the freeze plug locations to accept Mazworx’s threaded and O-ringed freeze plugs.
Enhanced Engine Breathing
Optimizing airflow is critical for performance, and this cylinder head features advanced CNC porting and chamber design:
- Stage 3 CNC Porting: Ports and valve seats are widened and refined using a Superflow 600 flow bench to maximize flow efficiency.
- CNC Combustion Chamber Machining: Enlarges the combustion chamber to remove squish areas that can cause detonation at high boost, while improving valve airflow by deshrouding.
- Multi-Angle Valve Job: Multiple valve seat angles (up to five, plus radius on 90mm chambers) increase sealing and airflow.
Valve and Guide Restoration
Ensuring valve precision and durability, the cylinder head undergoes:
- Valve Guide Removal, Replacement, and Reaming: Worn guides are replaced with Supertech bronze guides for both intake and exhaust to meet specifications.
- Valve Seal Replacement: New Viton valve seals installed to maintain reliability and prevent leaks.
- Assembly: Installation of Supertech +1mm intake valves, +1mm Inconel exhaust valves with 6mm stems, dual spring kit (90lbs), and titanium retainers.
- Dual Guide Conversion and Rocker Level Setting: Rockers are machined for dual guides and set to cam specifications using a combination of new and existing guides.
Additional Options and Surfacing
- 1/2″ Head Stud Machining (Optional): Head stud holes can be machined to fit 1/2″ studs with dowel pin locations machined for 16mm dowels.
- Precision Surfacing: The cylinder head is resurfaced with a poly-crystalline diamond (PCD) tool to ensure a flat and reliable sealing surface.
